Ensuring Compliance from Design through to Demolition

STI SYNC: Defining the Standard and Ensuring Compliance

Firestop SYNC is a unifying platform that establishes the standard for addressing firestop conditions, ensures the standard is followed throughout the design phase, and enforces the designed standard during building construction and throughout occupation. With STI SYNC, Building Owners, Designers, Contractors, and Maintenance Teams are empowered to establish, implement, and maintain a fire life safety standard. Ensuring long term compliance and giving building occupants safer buildings.

Establishing Standards for Success

An important criterion for a first-class property environment is the establishment of risk management and loss prevention programs to assure the reliability of fire and life safety systems.  Barrier management entails identifying all types of fire rated assemblies including the types of penetrations, and the activities that cause them to become breached. The goal of the Barrier Management Program is to prepare and mitigate possible issues through detection and suppression of potential future loss from fire. The program does this by setting expectations for all parties involved including vendors, contractors, and facility maintenance personnel to maintain a specific set of Firestop Systems for installation and inspection of assemblies to have a better understanding when situations of non-compliance might arise.

  • Bring your facility into compliance
  • Regain control of barriers
  • Administer guidelines for barrier management
  • Reduce costs associated with deficiencies
  • Develop a proactive approach for life safety requirements
  • Hold parties responsible for sealing rated barriers to the highest standard of accountability

Firestop Designed in Right from the Start

Introducing a powerful new plugin for AutoDesk Revit®. The FCM (Firestop Clash Management) plugin uses clash detection to find locations where penetrants and/or joints meet fire-rated barriers and automatically selects the appropriate firestop systems. It removes the complexity of designing firestop systems and ensures that when it comes time for construction, the systems selected provide the fastest installation and best installed cost. It is as easy as 1, 2, 3!

Plugin Features:

  • Clash detection finds locations where penetrants intersect rated barriers
  • Best UL Certified firestop system for each condition is selected and inserted into the model at clash location
  • Openings are designed based on optimal UL System design parameters
  • Connects automatically to STI’s System Search to ensure latest system revision is selected
  • Automatically generate an openings report for construction coordination

Compliance During and Post Construction

Construction documentation requirements have exploded. Whether reports are necessary to fulfill contract obligations or data is being used internally for quality control and management purposes, tracking and reporting methods are essential. Firestop Locator provides a method to simplify firestop documentation.

  • Interactive floor drawings
  • Track penetrations, joints, doors, dampers
  • Apps for iOS, Android, and Web
  • Streamline the Firestop tracking process
  • Add team members to any project
  • Turn-key solution with pre-printed QR labels
  • Generate detailed reports (PDF and Excel®)

Baptist Health is a statewide health system with many facilities and contractors. Changing the old way of doing things to a step-by-step program of “doing it right or not getting paid” ruffled some feathers at first – but once established, it created an atmosphere of trust, safety, and limited liability for both BH and its contractors.

After an unfavorable inspection, Kettering Medical Center needed to ensure compliance with Life Safety Standards, NFPA 101 Life Safety Codes and NFPA 80 by clearly defining and regularly communicating firestopping protocols for the Barrier Management Program® addressing fire door compliance to all contractors who work in the medical center.
