Mechanical Electrical Plumbing

We offer a variety of off-the-shelf and factory manufactured solutions that are up to the challenge of any mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) penetration.

Mechanical Electrical Plumbing

What we have to offer

  • Versatility of intumescent sealant: Our SpecSeal® LCI Intumescent Sealant is used in over 500 Through-Penetration UL® Firestop Systems with fire ratings up to four hours.
  • Eliminate core drilling with cast-in-place firestopping: Install SpecSeal® Cast-in Devices before you pour—these devices eliminate scheduling holdups and free up installers to do what they do best without sacrificing code compliance.
  • Electrical outlet protection: We offer excellent solutions for electrical outlet boxes, the most common penetrant on a typical construction project.

The 5/8" solution pioneered by STI

In gypsum board construction, many competitive products vary the thickness of sealant required dependent upon the hourly rating of the wall assembly. At STI, we pioneered the 5/8” depth solution. Whether 1- or 2-hour rated, our systems are consistent in requiring 5/8” depth of caulk to eliminate confusions and costly mistakes.

Eliminate core drilling with cast-in-place firestopping

Install SpecSeal® Cast-in Devices before you pour and make core drilling a thing of the past. SpecSeal® Cast-in Devices allow you to firestop during the concrete pour, eliminating the need to pre-form or core drill for each penetration. With SpecSeal® Cast-in Devices, you eliminate scheduling bottlenecks and free up installers to do what they do best without sacrificing code compliance.

Electrical outlet protection

STI offers excellent solutions for electrical outlet boxes, the most common penetrant on a typical construction project. SpecSeal® SSP Putty Pads, intumescent, non-hardening putty pads, are tested for 1 or 2 hour ratings on a wide variety of metal and plastic boxes with metal or plastic face plates.

STI’s SpecSeal® Series EP Box Inserts are intumescent pads that insert into the back of electrical boxes. The thin, supple pads do not significantly reduce available box volume, and in the event of fire, expand up to 60x to ensure ratings of 1 or 2 hour walls are maintained.

Acoustical considerations

All STI product are designed and tested to confirm their abilityto resist the passage of sound, following the parameters of ASTM E90. Sound Transmission Classification (STC) Ratings are an important consideration on many construction projects, and STI products and systems help maintain such ratings.
