When it comes to protecting electrical boxes and maintaining the fire‑resistance ratings of wall assemblies, contractors need a solution that is both reliable and efficient. Specified Technologies Inc.’s SpecSeal® EP Powershield™ Electrical Box Insert is engineered specifically to protect electrical switch or receptacle boxes while meeting building code requirements.
Designed as a one‑component intumescent pad, the EP Powershield™ installs directly inside the box against the back wall, where, under fire conditions, it expands up to 24 times its original volume when exposed to 350 degrees or more. This rapid expansion seals off the passage of fire and smoke, supporting wall assemblies in meeting UL1479 criteria and ASTM E119 (UL263) time-temperature conditions for up to two hours of fire‑resistance rating.
Box Inserts can be installed on‑site or pre‑installed in the shop before the electrical boxes ever reach the job site.
In addition, the EP Powershield™ offers:
Reduce installation time– installs before or after gypsum board installation.
No mess or residue.
Tested for use with metallic outlet or switch electrical boxes and certified as a Wall Opening Protective Material (See CLIV for more information), the EP Powershield™ provides dependable performance when wall assemblies require horizontal box spacing reduced to less than 24 inches.
